Opening Times
We aim to provide a flexible service to parents. Our setting is open from 08:00 to 18:00 Monday to Friday throughout the year. We may be able to provide an extended day beyond this time. Please contact us to discuss.
Funding
We offer Funded Early Education for two year olds (FEET), Funded Early Education for three and four year olds and the 30 hours funded childcare. For more information about eligibility, please click here.

We can each care for a maximum of six children under the age of 8 years old, no more than three of which may be in the early years age range with no more than one child being under 1 year old.

Our Facilities
The downstairs area of the house is designed with the children in mind. Our environment is carefully planned so that all activities are at the children's height and to encourage freedom of movement and choice. The space allows the children to engage with a wide range of Montessori activities and materials and enables them to discover, explore, learn and enhance their skills at their own pace. This multi-sensory approach includes practical life, sensorial, literacy, numeracy and cultural activities. We regularly change the activities on display to ensure the environment remains fresh and enticing. The children can work independently, with a friend or with an adult promoting good self-esteem and social skills. Our role as the adult is to empower them and help them to help themselves.
We use a mix of free play and structured activities, following the children's interests and abilities. The room is set up in curriculum areas with space for creativity, reading, dressing up, and role play. Other activities include cooking, shopping, gardening, music and movement, and exploring the natural environment through our Forest School sessions.

A maximum of just nine children under five, with three staff, enables us to provide individual attention for children of different ages. Our older children have access to the lounge for quieter, after school activities.

We have free-flow access to the garden and we go outside in all kinds of weathers. Our garden is secure and offers many of the practical life activites e.g. sweeping, hammering, watering plants etc and we have a greenhouse where we are growing our own fruit and vegetables.

Our outings have been many and varied. We frequently take the children on local trips to farms, gardens, country parks, canals and woodlands.

Food and Drink
At The Little Sweethearts we want to ensure that what we serve your child balances nutritional needs with an enjoyable experience.

To do this we:

  • obtain information about the child's likes and dislikes, any allergies or special dietary requirements.
  • promote food hygiene e.g. hand washing and encourage the children to talk to us about their food likes and dislikes.
  • involve children in the preparation of meals so they can learn about healthy food.
  • have regard for the Voluntary Food and Drink Guidelines for Early Years Settings and the information from the Caroline Walker Trust and use the guidance to plan menus for the setting.
  • ensure children have access to fresh drinking water at all times.
  • promote meal times as a social event encouraging children to sit at the table, use good manners, a knife and fork and ask older children to be role models for younger children.
  • encourage children to make choices for themselves by providing a variety of options for snacks that children are able to select for themselves.
  • fully support mothers who want to continue breastfeeding and are happy to accept breast milk in bottles. All milk must be supplied for babies under 1 year of age.
  • display menus in a folder and provide parents with meal ideas.
Menus
We have a flexible approach to the provision of food. We offer snacks, lunch and dinner for the children in our care. A termly menu is displayed for parents to view and menus and a list of allergens is kept in the food file. There is a strong focus on promoting healthy eating - children are offered choices and encouraged to be independent.

All our meals are cooked on the premises by Tania and we provide childrens' favourites, together with an appetising choice of new meals and flavours for the children to try. Feedback on the menu is always welcome.
